About The Role

You will be responsible for in-depth assessments for those applying to join the Housing Register whilst working in accordance with the Dorset Council Housing Allocations Policy checking eligibility and qualification. As a service we prioritise applicants at risk of homelessness or with safeguarding issues and refer to the Homeless Team when required.

You will be need to be confident when dealing with queries from applicants or their representatives, processing their applications and, if and when appropriate, signposting to other teams to ensure the housing needs of those contacting the service are met and to achieve successful outcomes.

The team are friendly, dynamic, and very supportive of one another whilst working collaboratively in a confidential environment.

The working environment is busy and dynamic subject to interruptions to deal with queries and will involve taking telephone calls.

The Dorset Council Housing Allocations Policy describes how social housing is available through our scheme.

Dorset Council maintains a housing register but does not have its own housing stock. We work with social landlords (housing associations, community land trusts and alms houses) to support the aims of the scheme.

We offer a choice based lettings scheme which means applicants have choice about where they live. However, it prioritises those people in the most need of affordable housing. There is a high demand for social housing in the area and we will balance providing choice and housing need. Waiting times may vary and will be reported annually.

At Dorset Council, we prioritise investing in our employees' growth and development. As part of our team, you will have access to a wide range of exciting opportunities to enhance your skills and advance your career. Through continuous learning programs and collaboration with knowledgeable colleagues.
