Upton Schools are in the Hillary Partnership of Hamwic Education Trust (HET); a large, fast-paced multi-academy trust with currently 37 schools across the South Coast: Portsmouth, Southampton, Poole and Dorset. The Hillary Partnership is a multi-academy partnership based in Poole and Dorset. The partnership enables local schools to work together to develop a strong education for all our children.
Role Summary:
Upton Schools are seeking to appoint a School Streets Steward, located at Upton Junior School.
This role involves –
- Managing traffic flow around the designated zone including:
- Managing a closure point
- Managing vehicle access
- Walking authorised traffic through the restricted zone
- Communicating with the public, what is happening, recommending diversion routes, directing to parking spaces and waiting times.
- Collecting and setting up an appropriate barrier in line with agreed practices.
- Ensuring temporary timings are strictly adhered to.
- Ensuring the health and safety of road users within the zone.
- Ensuring the road is promptly cleared and safe to use for the designated zone reopening time.
- Supporting key messages and positively contributing towards raising the profile of the School Streets.

We are seeking a professional individual who:
Experience
- No previous experience as a steward required
- Experience engaging with adults and children from a diverse range of backgrounds
- Experience in conducting conversations professionally and able to explain instructions clearly
- Experience of effectively undertaking set processes and procedures
Knowledge
- Understanding of roads and road users
- Awareness of how different weather conditions affect road users and vehicles
- Knowledge of road safety
- Knowledge of the local area
