About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to become a vital part of our Birth to Settled Adulthood Chesil (Weymouth & Portland) Team. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Grade 8 Family Worker to join us on a permanent basis. You will be welcomed into an established, cheerful, and highly motivated team of Social Workers and Family Workers, all committed to making a difference in the Weymouth and Portland area.

Our team boasts a wealth of skills, knowledge, and experience, and we are always eager to learn from one another. We collaborate closely with social care colleagues, schools, educational settings, health services, and other agencies to provide comprehensive support to the families we serve. If selected, you will work alongside a highly experienced team to help develop our innovative Birth to Settled Adulthood offer.

What We’re Looking For:

We need an enthusiastic and energetic individual to enhance our existing team as a Family Worker. In this role, you will directly engage with children and their families, contributing to and supporting multi-agency plans and interventions aimed at improving outcomes and life chances for children and young people in Dorset.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Grade 8 Family Worker, you will:

  • conduct one-to-one sessions, group work, and family interventions
  • provide direct support to children, young people, parents, and families in their homes and local communities
  • facilitate and participate in Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings and reviews
  • utilise relevant case management systems, databases, and business intelligence tools as directed by the team manager
  • offer information, advice, and guidance to children, young people, and families
  • collaborate with other professionals, including social workers, and manage some Child in Need cases
  • assess parenting skills and enhance physical and emotional caregiving abilities through practical activities
  • deliver parenting and behaviour management support tailored to each family’s needs
  • stay informed about local service provisions to better assist families
  • coach, mentor, and empower families to initiate and sustain positive changes
  • provide support to families during crisis situations
  • act as a liaison between early help services and local schools

About You:

  • you have experience working with and supporting children and/or families
  • you are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people in Dorset
  • you are self-motivated, enthusiastic, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • you embody the values of Responsibility, Respect, Recognition, and Collaboration in alignment with Dorset’s behaviours
  • you can work effectively as part of a team while also utilising your initiative
