About the role

Senior Science Technician

Dorset Grade 8 (£27,711-£31,586 FTE, £14.36-£16.37 per hour) Pay Award Pending

37 hrs/week, term time only - 39 weeks per year + training days

Beaminster School Science department is looking to appoint a well-organised and hardworking Senior Science Technician to join us as soon as possible. Previous experience is considered desirable but not essential.

The Science department has a long history of providing comprehensive Science education. We have an enthusiastic and experienced team of educators who work well together and we look forward to welcoming the successful candidate into our team.

The department has six fully equipped laboratories in a purpose-built Science block, with its own staff room and prep areas. The staff team currently consists of nine Science teachers plus two Science technicians.

As a fully comprehensive 11 to 18 school, our Science department educates a huge variety of students and provide KS3, KS4 and KS5 Science courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to seek out efficient and co-operative ways of working within the Science team
  • Be enthusiastic about working with a range of pupils with differing needs and abilities
  • Show initiative and take a flexible approach to working
  • Build positive relationships with staff and students
  • Ensure all Health and Safety requirements and regulations are adhered to.

Training courses will be available in order to aid with career progression and bring new skills and experience to the department.

Working hours are 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday (4pm on Friday), with a 30 minute (unpaid) lunch break.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Beaminster School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
