About the role

DT/Art Technician 21 hours per week on a permanent basis, Grade 5 (Pay award pending)

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and maintain resources, equipment, and materials needed for Design Technology and Art lessons, ensuring a safe and well-organised workspace.
  • Support teaching staff in setting up practical activities and demonstrations.
  • Assist pupils during practical lessons, providing guidance on equipment use and techniques, encouraging independence and creativity.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment in DT and Art classrooms and workshops.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of materials, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Assist with the display and presentation of student work to promote creativity and achievement.

The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate

  • A passion for supporting students in developing their creative skills and confidence.
  • Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail in managing materials and equipment.
  • An understanding of health and safety procedures related to DT and Art environments.
  • A willingness to develop professionally and contribute positively to the school community.
  • Previous experience in a similar technician or practical support role (desirable).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Promote the ethos and vision of the school.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities.
  • Assist with supervision and management of pupils outside the classroom, including during breaks and school trips as directed.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
