About the role

Part time 0.60 contract

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring and dynamic Head of Drama, to cover a period of maternity leave.

The Drama Department plays a lively role in the school community, both through the curriculum and in extra-curricular clubs and productions, and trips are regularly made to both local and national theatres. Drama is taught across the school’s 11-18 age range.  At Key Stage 3, drama is taught as a practical, discrete subject for one lesson per week and is well established.  At GCSE, Drama is a popular option and results are very good. In the Sixth Form students opt to take Drama at A level and achieve excellent results.  Past productions include “Grease”, “School of Rock” and “Annie”.

Drama is taught in a large purpose-built studio that contains a lighting system and moveable staging units.  It is a flexible space that provides very good accommodation for both practical lessons and small-scale productions.

Are you someone who:

  • Delivers exciting and inspiring Drama lessons across the school. The ideal candidate will have ability to teach GCSE and A Level Drama.
  • Actively develops, runs and supports the extra-curricular programme.
  • Works with pupils of all ability and encourages pupils to develop and reach their potential in Drama.
  • Work across the wider school to promote Drama and the extracurricular benefits of the subject.
  • Is an excellent subject knowledge and a thorough grasp of assessment in Drama.
  • Has excellent organisational skills.
  • Is an excellent leader with a proven record of motivating students to achieve outstanding progress.

If so, we would love to hear from you.

The Woodroffe School is seeking an experienced and effective teacher to join our dedicated Drama department.

Come and be part of a school where every child is supported to be the very best they can be.

Further Information

We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sectors of the community.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people; this is a commitment which we expect all staff and volunteers to share. The successful candidate will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Governments safer recruitment guidelines.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The Woodroffe School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
