Part time Caretaker/Handyperson
10 hours per week (working hours can be flexible and discussed at interview)
Term Time only, with possibly some additional hours in school holidays as required.
Required to start as soon as possible in September.
We are seeking to appoint a well-motivated, reliable and resourceful person to join our dedicated staff team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a full range of duties to provide for general security and maintenance of the school premises. They will have good basic DIY skills in order to undertake minor repairs, and general maintenance. Good organisational skills and an ability to work from initiative are essential. They will be honest, reliable and hardworking and committed to achieving very high standards in their work.
Duties will include:
* Ensuring the security of the premises including locking/unlocking and setting/unsetting alarm system
* Checking premises and equipment daily for damage/wear and tear
* Check fire equipment and regularly test alarms.
* Undertake regular maintenance and safety checks.
* Carrying out repairs and maintenance and arrange emergency repairs if necessary.
* Carry out minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
* Carrying out minor gardening duties as required.
* To carry out painting works as required.
* Ensuring that all hard play areas, paths and parking areas are maintained
* Ensuring that all drains, gullies and guttering are free flowing and clean.
* Moving furniture and equipment around the school premises as required.
* Recording meter readings (gas, electricity, water)
* Using power tools for appropriate repair and maintenance tasks.
* Ensuring that safe methods of work are adopted in line with Health and Safety requirements.
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policy.

Southill Primary School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not be on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert and this will be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments. In the first year of service this salary may need to be adjusted to ensure you are paid accurately to reflect your holiday entitlement. A similar adjustment may be made at the point your employment ends to ensure that you are paid accurately for the number of days worked in any academic year.
