St. Osmund’s C.E. Middle School is an over-subscribed Middle School for Years 5 – 8, located in the thriving county town of Dorchester. The school is proudly part of the Wessex Multi Academy Trust and is Ofsted Good in all areas (2022).

We are seeking a permanent Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer to start in September 2025, to work closely with and under the direction of the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead. The role is for 25 hours per week, term time only. Times and days can be discussed at interview.
The role will involve supporting our designated safeguarding lead with managing safeguarding in our school. This may include some or all of the following:
- Responsibility for safeguarding children and child protection (including online safety) ensuring that the school is meeting its legal statutory requirements as laid out in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021.
- To be responsible for liaising with local statutory children’s services and agencies and with the key local Safeguarding partners.
- Taking part in discussions and inter agency meetings to contribute to the assessment of children.
- To manage internal and external referrals.
- To provide support, advice, and guidance to other staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete appropriate advanced / level three equivalent safeguarding training, if not already achieved.
