About the role

Curriculum Lead of Music

FTE 1.0 - MPR/UPR with a TLR2.1

Required:  January/April 2026

The Governors of Dorchester Middle School wish to appoint an inspirational, highly motivated and innovative Curriculum Leader to lead the Music team to raise the standards of curriculum implementation, attainment and achievement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have Qualified Teacher status;
  • Be an excellent teacher of Music who will develop and lead a team of KS2 and KS3 Music teachers;
  • Develop Music teaching across the school to achieve the highest standards of learning¸ ensuring that Music is accessible and engaging for all learners;
  • Have the ambition and initiative to design, develop and lead the Music curriculum across KS2 and KS3;
  • Have a passion for their subject and the ability to make their subject come alive with inspirational and interactive lessons, which challenge and support all pupils to secure the best outcomes;
  • Be a proven excellent classroom practitioner with strong subject knowledge;
  • Be able to demonstrate ambitious standards and has high expectations for all pupils, ensuring robust assessment to support pupil progression;
  • Have excellent organisational and ICT skills;
  • Be a flexible practitioner with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a highly successful team;
  • Work collaboratively with Senior and other Middle leaders to drive school improvement;
  • Be personable, approachable and a team player.

Dorchester Middle School is a member of the Wessex Multi-Academy Trust of local First, Middle and Upper schools who share resources, planning and expertise in order to enhance continuity across all stages of the children’s’ education.

Keeping Children Safe in Education
 Dorchester Middle School and Wessex Multi-Academy Trust will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
