Main purpose of role
The People Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the full employee lifecycle at Coastland College, delivering a positive employee experience.
The People Coordinator will:
- provide first-line HR support, responding to queries and offering advice and guidance to staff and managers
- manage recruitment and onboarding
- oversee and organise staff development and training
- contribute to HR projects and initiatives, including HR system and process improvements, policy reviews and updates, and engagement, wellbeing, and EDI programmes
Work Location
Coastland College, Weymouth Campus with travel to Kingston Maurward campus when required.
Hours of Work
37 hours per week, Permanent
08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday
08:30 to 16:30 on Friday
Main duties and responsibilities
Employee lifecycle
- maintain and update employee records in the iTrent HR system, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and GDPR compliance
- administer all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contract changes, leavers, and reporting
- liaise with Payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee changes
HR advisory
- manage HR team mailboxes, triaging queries and delivering timely, professional advice across all HR matters
- provide first-line HR support to staff and managers, ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures
- escalate complex or sensitive issues to People Advisors as appropriate
- deliver HR advisory support, including:
- annual leave and absence queries
- probation and contract variation advice
- support with informal disciplinary and performance matters
- guidance on family leave and flexible working requests
- contribute to HR projects and initiatives, such as:
- HR system and process improvements
- policy reviews and updates
- engagement, wellbeing, and EDI programmes
Compliance and policies
- maintain the College’s Single Central Record (SCR) in line with KCSIE and safeguarding requirements
- ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies
Recruitment and onboarding
- lead and manage end-to-end recruitment campaigns
- coordinate interview logistics and candidate communications
- oversee onboarding and pre-employment checks, ensuring Safer Recruitment compliance
- manage recruitment systems and provide training and support to users
- act as the main contact for recruitment queries and agency relationships
- prepare recruitment reports and insights to support decision-making
- drive continuous improvement in recruitment and onboarding processes
- monitor sector trends to inform recruitment strategy
Staff development and learning
- support the planning and delivery of training programmes and workshops
- track employee development goals and maintain training records
- assist with performance review cycles and feedback processes
HR systems and reporting
- produce regular and ad-hoc workforce reports to support decision-making and compliance
- provide first-line support for HR system queries and user training
- ensure HR data and documentation are audit-ready for internal and external reviews
- contribute to ongoing improvement of HR systems and processes
