About the role

Adult Social Care Commissioning in Dorset is a major undertaking, with over £100m spent each year to meet local needs. Joining us as a Social Care Commissioning Officer means your work will have a clear and direct impact on people’s lives across the county.

We currently have an opportunity within the team, focusing on domiciliary care, with scope over time to build experience across more areas while developing a specialism.

What’s in it for you

You’ll be part of a supportive and inclusive commissioning team working on work that genuinely matters. We offer flexible and hybrid working, access to learning and development, and the chance to build strong partnerships across the care sector, the NHS and wider council services.

You’ll also benefit from Dorset Council’s wider employee benefits and our strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

What you’ll be doing

In this role you’ll work closely with local care providers, operational teams and health partners to commission services that deliver positive outcomes and make best use of public funding.

You’ll help shape and deliver commissioning activity through strong relationships, data-led insight and effective contract management, ensuring services meet agreed quality, performance and value expectations while responding to local need.

About you

  •  experience or knowledge of social care, health or related support services
  • strong analytical, planning and organisational skills, including working confidently with Excel data
  • experience of partnership working, negotiation and delivering projects or programmes
  • understanding of the local care market, particularly older people’s services, is desirable
  • a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable people
  • you’ll be a confident communicator who can balance attention to detail with an understanding of the wider system.
