About the role

People are at the heart of every service we deliver at Dorset Council and in HR & Payroll Support it is our role to enable people to do their best work. We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the HR & Payroll Support team, one of the key support areas in the People and Workforce Service at Dorset Council. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to undertake a key role in the delivery of this service for Dorset Council. The positions are based in Dorchester with the option to work from home for some of your time. Attendance at the offices in Dorchester is essential for induction and training and a regular commitment to attending the office for team events and customer support is an integral part of the role.

 
What will you be doing?
 
  •  you will be involved in delivering a range of HR and Payroll services to meet the needs of our managers and employees
  •  give advice, guidance and information as the first point of contact within the HR and Payroll service
  •  apply your understanding of policies and procedures, terms and conditions of employment and payroll knowledge
  •  keep our employee records up to date in the council’s HR Payroll system
  •  support all parts of the employee life cycle, from starting in employment through to leaving
 
 About you
 
To be successful in this role, you will have:
 
  • a good standard of general education, and be numerate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • you will have experience of performing an administrative role and be skilled in the use of office ICT systems
  • experience of working in a HR and/or Payroll service is desirable but not essential
  • an understanding of the importance of accurate record keeping and data protection
    the ability to be a team player and able to prioritise your workload and work to deadlines
