Have you ever wanted to make a difference at the moment it matters most?
This is not a typical tutoring or teaching role – and that’s exactly what makes it so meaningful. As an Academic & Engagement Tutor, you’ll work one-to-one with young people who have become disconnected from education, meeting them in their homes or communities and helping them find their way back to learning, confidence, and self-belief. At a time when school may feel overwhelming or out of reach, you’ll be the calm, consistent presence that helps learning feel possible again.
You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll be supported by a dedicated, values-driven team who understand both the challenges and the rewards of this work. Every day will look different and will ask for patience, creativity, and emotional resilience – but it will also bring moments of genuine connection, progress, and pride. If you’re looking for a role where small wins matter, where relationships come first, and where the impact of your work is felt every single day, this could be the most rewarding role you ever take on.
What you’ll do:
- deliver tailored 1:1 learning sessions at home or in the community
- support progress in core subjects, particularly English and Maths (including Functional Skills and GCSE)
- build students’ confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes to learning
- encourage attendance, perseverance, and engagement, even on challenging days
- monitor progress and engagement, keeping clear and accurate records
- work closely with families, schools, and the Bespoke Learning team
- adapt strategies to overcome barriers to learning
- support transitions into school, college, or other next steps
- always prioritise safeguarding and student wellbeing
Who you are:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or strong tutoring/teaching experience with the right skills and mindset
- experience supporting young people with additional needs, including SEND, behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges
- a flexible, patient, and creative approach to teaching and learning
- excellent communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills
- a full UK driving licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and business insurance
- a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and positive outcomes for young people
- if you’re not a qualified teacher but feel your experience, values, and passion make you a great fit, we’d still love to hear from you. Please contact [email protected] before applying to tell us more about your background. (Please note that only applicants with QTS can paid on the Teacher’s MPS, so the salary for a successful applicant without QTS would need to be mutually agreed)
