About the role

St. Osmund’s C.E. Middle School is an over-subscribed Middle School for Years 5 – 8, located in the thriving county town of Dorchester. The school is proudly part of the Wessex Multi Academy Trust and is recognized by Ofsted as Good in all areas (2022).

We are a Church of England School built upon the Christian values of hope, community, respect and love.

We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated SEND learning mentor to support children both in the classroom and in our sensory room.

Specific duties that will be overseen by the successful applicant will include, but not be limited to: leading on our EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) provision; designing and updating individual pupils’ 5 point scales and overseeing sensory programmes for students who would benefit from this support. We will be looking for the candidate to administer our Edukey software and work alongside our SENDCo and SEND Manager setting and reviewing targets for our EHCP students whilst supporting with assessments and managing our AV1 deployments.

To achieve Grade 7 salary, the successful candidate will need to have NVQ L3 or equivalent in an appropriate subject area.

Candidates must have a good standard of English and Maths.

The role is a permanent, part time role for 34 hours per week: 8:00-15:30, Monday to Friday term time only, 38 weeks.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

St Osmund's CE Middle School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
