About the role

We are looking for a Content Designer to join our Transformation Management Office in the Digital Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how Dorset Council delivers services to residents.

You will work with teams across the council to design content and user journeys that are simple and effective. You'll help residents get information and access the services they need, at the time they need it.

What you’ll be doing

You will be:
  • creating user focused and accessible content to be used across different channels
  • working with colleagues across the council to promote content design principles and influence content creation
  • managing content daily using a content management system
  • identifying user needs, creating content to meet them and testing this with user research and feedback
  • taking part in user research sessions and workshops
  • working with complex language to make it understandable, accessible, and written in plain English
  • a key part of our digital services team, making good online services
  • part of our team rota to manage website change approvals and provide support to our editors across the council.
About you

You will:
  • put people first to write excellent content based on their needs
  • understand the value of data, having experience of undertaking user research and analysing data to identify opportunities to improve services
  • have experience of search engine optimisation
  • be comfortable working with groups of stakeholders and have an ability to create a collaborative environment, building trust to design and implement new customer journeys
  • have experience using content management systems and publishing accessible content
  • be passionate about content design and digital change, and determined to make a difference.
If you don’t have previous experience as a Content Designer, this role would also suit people who have:
  • experience working as a digital content producer or in a digital communications role
  • good communication skills including writing and presenting
  • experience making content easier to understand and accessible on the web.
