This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to support students from Year 7 to Sixth Form in exploring their futures and making informed decisions about their next steps. The successful candidate will provide independent careers advice, coordinate a range of careers events, and develop strong links with employers, colleges, universities, and training providers.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting our school ethos and ensuring that all students are supported to develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need for successful futures.

The Careers Advisor & Work-Related Learning Lead will:

  • Provide impartial one-to-one careers guidance and interviews for students.
  • Support students with transition planning at key stages, particularly at post-16 and post-18.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of the school’s careers education programme in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Organise careers events such as careers fairs, employer talks, and university/college visits.
  • Lead the Year 10 work experience programme and support Sixth Form placements.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with employers, apprenticeship providers, FE colleges, and universities.
  • Track destination data for Year 11 and Year 13 students.
  • Work with pastoral teams to support students at risk of becoming NEET.
  • Provide information and guidance for parents and carers, including attendance at parents’ evenings and school events.
  • Maintain and develop the careers section of the school website.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Has strong knowledge of post-16 pathways, including apprenticeships, further education, higher education, and employment routes.
  • Is highly organised with strong administrative and ICT skills.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students, parents, staff and external partners.
  • Can work independently and as part of a wider team.

Further Information

SAST will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. In line with KCSIE guidance, this will be part of safer recruitment checks, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not be on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.

Safeguarding responsibilities associated with this role may include engagement in regulatory activity, such as administering first aid or supporting an upset child.  It will have contact with young people on a day-to-day basis.  SAST is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will have to meet the person specification and the post is subject to safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check and Children’s Barred List check.  The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.

SAST recognises the benefit of having a diverse workforce and is committed to building a workforce which reflects diversity from the communities it serves. SAST values the contributions from all staff from a wide range of different backgrounds and actively seeks to promote an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and at the same time supports fair promotion and cultural acceptance. Under the provision of the Equality Act 2010 SAST welcomes applications from everyone and operates a recruitment process which is fair and does not discriminate against or disadvantage anyone because of their age, disability, gender reassignment status, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race or nationality, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

This role is UK- based and your right to work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.
The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.
