About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and people‑focused individual to join our team as an Assistant Ranger based at Moors Valley Country Park. This varied role sits at the heart of everything the site offers, while contributing to the wider vision of Dorset Council’s Country Parks service to provide memorable experiences and recreational opportunities across our sites.
 
We looking for two dynamic & enthusiastic individuals to support the Team in a variety of roles including, visitor services, educational engagement & activities, plus assisting the estates team at Moors Valley Country Park. Last year the Park exceeded one million visitors so we require someone with exceptional communication and organisational skills.  
 
We are looking for someone with:
 
  • the ability to work as part of a team and on own using their own initiative
  • effective communication skills i.e. an ability to communicate with members of the public, local community groups, volunteers, partner organisations and colleagues
  • the ability to resolve difficulties using diplomacy and negotiation skills
 
Key elements of the role include:
 
  • supporting a programme of visitor engagement initiatives, including events, activities, school environmental education groups, exhibitions and birthday parties, within the Country Park
  • contributing to the development of the wider team and service as specified by the Senior Ranger or Country Parks Manager
  • supporting the estates team in the management and day to day operation of the site, countryside management and future projects
  • delivering a cost effective, high quality and customer-focused service
  • outdoor working in all weathers, weekend, bank holiday and school holiday working
  • contributing to the day-to-day operations of a busy customer facing tourist attraction. Duties will include: serving customers, litter picking, inspecting facilities and responding to incidents such as lost children and first aids
