Contract: Fixed Term Contract 0.8 (4 days per week)

Start Date: 1st September 2026.

Are you an inspiring teacher with a passion for helping children flourish? Do you believe learning should be full of curiosity, confidence and joy? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Sturminster Marshall First School is a warm, welcoming and vibrant school at the heart of our community. We are proud of our nurturing environment, high expectations and enthusiastic pupils who are eager to learn. We are now seeking to appoint a committed and creative Class Teacher (0.8 Part Time) to join our dedicated team.

As a village school, we are proud to offer a friendly, close-knit environment where children are known and valued as individuals. Our smaller class sizes allow staff to build strong relationships with pupils and provide the care, support and challenge each child needs to thrive.

As a smaller school, we are fortunate to have a small but highly dedicated team who work closely together, support one another and share a genuine commitment to giving every child the very best start. Collaboration, kindness and teamwork are at the heart of all we do.

We warmly encourage prospective applicants to visit our website at www.sturminstermarshall.dorset.sch.uk to get a real sense of who we are, what we value and the exciting opportunities our school offers.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils
  • Creates engaging, imaginative and inclusive learning experiences
  • Builds positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Is reflective, enthusiastic and committed to high standards
  • Works well as part of a supportive team
  • Demonstrates adaptability, initiative and a positive approach to school life
  • Is an effective team member with a good sense of humour
  • Is committed to continuous professional development
  • Is dedicated to a child-centred ethos
  • Brings energy, kindness and a sense of possibility to the classroom

We can offer:

  • Delightful children who enjoy learning and make every day rewarding
  • A caring and supportive staff team
  • A strong sense of community and belonging
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • The chance to make a genuine difference every day
  • The opportunity to be part of a small but dedicated team where every contribution matters

Whether you are an experienced teacher or an early career teacher ready to begin your journey, we would be delighted to receive your application.

Sturminster Marshall First School values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people; this is a commitment which we expect all staff and volunteers to share. The successful candidate will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Governments safer recruitment guidelines.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Sturminster Marshall First School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
