About the role

Grade: F

Hours: 2 x Full Time vacancies - 37 hours per week
Appointment Type: Permanent
Location: We currently have two vacancies available at the following locations:
  • West Moors Training Centre
  • Devizes Training Centre

Please note that opportunities for home working are very limited. Until January 2027 Devizes Training Centre will be undergoing major refurbishments and there will be a requirement to work at various locations across the service area.

As a Driver Trainer in our Operational Training department you will:

  • Provide driver training to staff in all driving disciplines including both novice and experienced drivers as detailed in the driver training policy and to meet legislative needs
  • Be responsible for the safety and conduct of students and resources undertaking training and assessment, e.g. daily vehicle checks and records, and cleaning of training vehicles and resources
  • Seek opportunities to improve delivery methods and to optimise the student learning experience to ensure that time is used effectively and learning is understood and applied in a working environment
 

What makes you our ideal Driver Trainer?

  • 4 GCSE passes - Grade A*- C / 9 - 4, including English and Mathematics or equivalent Level 2 qualification (including L2 functional skills), or higher-level relevant qualification
  • Experience of delivering and designing training packages
  • Ability to work using their own initiative with good organisational and time management skills and as part of a team

Other Information:

  • You must have a full current category C driving licence (held for a minimum of 3 years).
  • Use of your own vehicle will be required when a Service vehicle is not available. Please note most Service vehicles are manual transmission only.
  • The role has a significant travel requirement across both Dorset and Wiltshire.
  • The role involves some evening and weekend working.
  • Standard Disclosure & Barring Service Check (DBS) clearance will be undertaken on the successful individual prior to offer of employment.
  • Any offer of employment will be subject to full pre-employment checks which include identity checks, right to work in the UK, medical, receipt of satisfactory references, verification of employment history and an explanation of any gaps in employment in the last 3 years.
  • Upon appointment you will be required to adhere to the requirements of a Health Surveillance Programme and attend an Occupational health appointment for baseline readings.
  • Trainer allowance, amount payable 10% of salary rising to 15% after 1 year (this is a pensionable allowance)
