Community Resource Worker at The Dorset Combined Youth Justice Service

Role Purpose

As part of the Focused Deterrence project and our response to knife crime, we are looking to recruit a Community Resource Worker for a fixed period of 12 months. We are looking for a confident, energetic worker to support children and young people to engage them in constructive activities and enable them to learn new skills, all the while building their confidence and self-esteem, and deterring from further offending.

Main Responsibilities

Ideally, you will have a range of practical ‘hands on’ experience in areas such as Mechanics, Bike maintenance, DIY, Crafting, Cooking, etc and be able to model acceptable behaviour, promote pro-social attitudes, and practice good decision making and problem-solving skills.  

Some experience in working with children and young people, including managing challenging behaviour is essential, as is a good understanding and awareness of child protection issues. 

You will be expected to build positive relationships with each child or young person and when appropriate, support them to achieve some level of accreditation with AQA’s as they move towards independence.  You will have access to training and professional development to help you develop your skills and support future career development.

An outgoing and friendly personality is vital, as is the ability to communicate well whilst playing your part in the team supporting each young person.

Dorset Youth Justice Service has offices in Dorchester and North Bournemouth, the successful candidate will need to be willing to travel as and when required and willingly work flexible hours, including non-office hours, the role also involves lone working, both in the community and at one of our office bases.
