Dorset Council operates a fleet of over 600 vehicles for services such as Dorset Travel, Environment and Greenspace, Harbours and Libraries. It has over 200 Large Goods Vehicles in its Highway and Waste Collection Services.
We are looking to recruit one Vehicle Technician to work in our vehicle workshops in Ferndown. Working alongside the teams in our busy and well-equipped workshops, you will be helping to ensure that essential frontline teams continue to provide high quality services by minimising vehicle downtime.
This is all done over a 37-hour working week with some occasional overtime and Bank Holiday working. We provide all your PPE along with specialist tools and equipment. The Council encourages and supports personal development and our Vehicle Technicians have recently completed training to enable them to work on electric vehicles.
As an experienced mechanic you will know what a varied role this is and you will be carrying out safety inspections, routine maintenance, and ad-hoc repairs work on a variety of vehicles ranging from car derived vans to specialist vehicles such as gritters, refuse collection vehicles and mechanical sweepers.
Duties include
• Ensuring vehicles are safe and legal
• Carrying out preventative maintenance and defect repairs
• Notifying the Team Leader of any additional defects and/or parts required
• Taking vehicles for MOTs
• Completing “paperwork” be that online or hard copy
• Keeping the workshop clean, tidy, and safe
