Lead First Aid / Admin Officer

32½ hrs per week, term time only, plus all staff training days 

This is a new opportunity to join the Admin team and interact closely with our students by supporting their welfare across the year groups. These post details should be read in conjunction with the XS8.4 Admin Officer Job Description.

This is an interesting and exciting new role, no two days will be the same, so we are looking for someone who is versatile and thrives in a bustling working environment, is well-organised with a commitment to excellence, and has a positive “can do” attitude. Previous experience of working with young people or in an administrative setting would be an advantage.

Essential qualities include discretion, empathy, good personal organisation and time-keeping, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, accuracy and attention to detail and an understanding of the need for confidentiality.

Admin

The postholder will be front-facing and centrally based at Reception so must enjoy frequent interactions and working closely with the Admin team, will undertake a full range of administrative tasks as required, supporting the wider administrative needs of the school, including (but not limited to):

Duties will include:
 
  • welcoming visitors to our school and helping with any enquiries, including student enquiries
  • receiving and making telephone calls
  • supporting the school’s reprographics requirements (photocopying and printing)
  • producing student data reports (e.g. students accessing First Aid)
  • checking student reports etc

First Aid

The postholder will be the lead in all First Aid matters and the first point of contact for those requiring First Aid in school, so must be able to build positive, supportive relationships. The school has other qualified First Aiders who are able to provide additional support as needed:

Duties will include:

  • delivering First Aid care (including administering prescribed medication) to students, staff or visitors
  • monitoring unwell students until they are able to go home and reporting to parents as required
  • show compassion and understanding whilst minimising student time out of the classroom
  • maintaining accurate, up to date student medical information and details of any prescribed medication
  • maintaining and updating all First Aid related records and supplies
  • liaising with parents and sharing relevant student medical information with staff as appropriate
  • preparing First Aid packs for trips and visits
  • liaising with and supporting outside agencies (e.g. immunisation teams)
  • delivering health advice and guidance information to students as required
  • holding up to date First Aid qualification(s) and training (e.g. epipen autoinjector use and diabetes)
  • maintaining medical supplies and ensuring all related paperwork is safely and securely stored

General

The postholder must:

  • Enjoy a busy front-facing role involving daily contact with students, staff, parents and other visitors
  • Be confident and enthusiastic about working with pupils of all ages
  • Have a First Aid qualification and/or relevant First Aid experience, or be willing to be First Aid trained
  • Demonstrate strong keyboard and administrative skills
  • Show initiative and a keenness to be involved in all aspects of school life
  • Take a flexible, pro-active approach to working
  • Have a proven track record of good working relationships and professionalism

Working hours are likely to be 8.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday term time only and all leave must be taken during the school holidays.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Beaminster School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
