Passenger Assistant

Dorset Travel coordinate the transport provision for children and young people with additional needs within Dorset as well as out of county. The team also supply and support transport need for Mainstream, Child Care as well as Adults.

The vacancy is for a Passenger Assistant living in the Weymouth Area contracted at approximately 20 hours per week - Term Time Only, starting from September 2026 and commencing at £13.05 per hour. 

 The role of a Passenger Assistant is to support children and young people providing additional assistance in maintaining a safe environment on the journey from/to home/school. This vacancy is for a Static Peripatetic Passenger Assistant who will be required to cover Regular Passenger Assistant absence, and be picked up from their home location. There is no driving requirement.

Candidates need to be available morning and afternoon to coincide with school opening and closing times.

Dorset Travel is looking for caring, flexible and responsible passenger assistant who have:

• Knowledge of moderate and complex learning needs.
• An understanding of safeguarding children.
• Recognition of a hazard and how to report.
• Customer Care

You must be physically fit with the ability to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry and kneel to provide the care required for the position of a Passenger Assistant.

Dorset Travel is also an accredited training centre with experienced and qualified trainers, new staff will be invited onto a full induction training course, providing the tools and knowledge to enable you to work safely and professionally.

Full training is provided covering:

• Safeguarding
• Manual Handling
• Emergency First Aid
• Customer Care
  

An Enhanced DBS Check will be undertaken as part of the recruitment process for Child and Adult Workforce.

 Term time only contracts:

We base the pro-rata salary on:

• the number of hours

• the number of weeks worked

• paid annual leave entitlement for an employee under 5 years’ service  

Please note you will need to have Business Insurance in order to attend Induction and Refresher Training.
