About the role

We're looking for a compassionate, motivated and resilient Support Worker to join our dedicated team.

As a Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in helping people experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives. You'll provide practical and emotional support, work alongside guests to achieve their goals, and help create a safe, positive and supportive environment where people can thrive.

No two days are the same. From key working sessions and accompanying guests to appointments, to helping someone move into their own home, you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference every day. You will also support guests to reconnect with the community and experience positive activities, which may include trips to the beach, cinema visits, walks, day trips and other activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and social inclusion.

As part of the role, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of The Bus Shelter when on duty. This includes staffing the service on a rota basis, responding to the needs of guests, answering the phone and door, welcoming visitors, completing general administration tasks, filing, updating records and ensuring the service remains safe, organised and welcoming.

At times you will be supporting people who may display challenging behaviours due to trauma, mental health or substance misuse. Full training, support and guidance will be provided, and you'll be expected to respond with empathy, understanding and appropriate boundaries.

This role also involves periods of lone working, so you'll need to be confident making decisions, managing situations calmly and knowing when to seek additional support.

Further Information

At The Bus Shelter Dorset, you'll be joining a supportive, passionate team that genuinely changes lives every day.

We offer:

  • £13.45 per hour.
  • 30 contracted hours per week.
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave (pro rata, inclusive of bank holidays).
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Regular reflective practice and access to clinical supervision.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to people experiencing homelessness.

If you're passionate about helping people move forward, believe in second chances, and want to be part of a team that changes lives every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Closing Date: 6th September (please note we may close the vacancy early if we appoint the right candidate).

To apply: Please email [email protected] for an application form and job description, or phone (07340703240) for an informal chat or to arrange a visit.
