About the role

Are you passionate about empowering young people to thrive as they transition into adulthood?

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join our Paediatric OT Team, with a dedicated focus on Preparation for Adulthood (PfA).

This is a part time post of 25 hours. Although you will be based in Dorchester, the role will involve working with children and young people across the Dorset Council area.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and young people with additional needs, helping them build the skills, confidence, and independence they need for adult life.

This role sits within the birth to settled adulthood (B2SA) service which supports children and young people aged 0-25 who are disabled or have complex needs to ensure their needs are met in a holistic way and that they are well prepared and supported as they move into adulthood.

B2SA is an integrated service with adult social care that sits within Children’s Services and has been designed to improve the experience and outcomes of those with complex needs, who are disabled or have an impairment and their families. It proactively works with children and young people to promote the best possible opportunities for them into settled adulthood.

About the Role

You will work mainly with children and young people aged 14–25, their families, and professionals across education, health, and social care. Your role will focus on enabling functional independence in areas such as self-care and daily living skills as well as considering and capturing their goals and aspirations as part of the transition process into settled Adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver holistic, person-centred occupational therapy assessments and interventions including equipment provision, adaptations and moving and handling.
  • Facilitate conversations with children and young people to enable person centred goal setting relating to the development of life skills essential for adulthood, including activities of daily living, personal care, travel and vocational readiness.
  • Collaborate with adult social care, schools and colleges to ensure coordinated support.
  • Complete preparation for adulthood plans
  • Promote inclusive practice and advocate for young people’s aspirations and goals.
