About the role

Rockley College is seeking to employ a well-qualified, enthusiastic, and motivational Curriculum Manager to join and lead our education team and deliver on our sixth form course. At Rockley we run the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Adventure, a truly  vocational experience for our learners, covering academic qualifications, professional national governing body instructor qualifications and work experience.

Our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Adventure offers students a gateway to an adrenaline-fueled world of paddlesports, sailing, windsurfing, walking, mountain biking, and climbing.

 

Purpose of the role

To lead, manage and develop Rockley’s sport education provision, with responsibility for the planning, delivery and quality assurance of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. The post-holder will drive curriculum improvement and innovation, oversee staffing and student performance, and ensure that provision remains aligned to local and national skills needs.

The role combines strategic sport oversight, operational management and teaching responsibilities. The current delivery is via the Outdoors pathway, so outdoor knowledge is an asset but not essential — strong vocational sport curriculum leadership is the priority as the

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Provide line management, mentoring, and support to the education team (Programme Leaders, teachers, tutors and support staff)
  • Plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate curriculum activity in line with business improvement plans
  • Lead curriculum development and ensure future proofing as the outdoor pathway phases out
  • Maintain high standards of teaching and student achievement through consistent quality monitoring
  • Set and monitor staff and student performance targets against key KPIs: attendance, progress, retention, destinations
  • Ensure efficient deployment of staff and resources
  • Ensure effective induction, CPD, appraisal and performance management of staff

 

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

  • Teach consistently high-quality lessons within your specialism
  • Lead lesson observations, standardisation meetings, learning walks and CPD
  • Promote innovative teaching methods, digital learning, and employer engagement where relevant
  • Ensure assessment and verification processes are valid, rigorous and timely
  • Work with Programme Leaders to coordinate assignment schedules and assessment mapping
  • Use student data to monitor progress and drive timely intervention

 

Curriculum Planning and Compliance

  • Ensure the curriculum offer meets the requirements of awarding bodies, funding rules and Ofsted
  • Align curriculum content with business needs, the labour market and higher education progression routes
  • Manage timetabling, staff deployment and curriculum documentation
  • Oversee internal verification processes, including standardisation, sampling and feedback

Safeguarding, Inclusion and Student Experience

  • Work in partnership with the Student Wellbeing & Engagement Coordinator on safeguarding referrals and support plans
  • Promote an inclusive environment that supports learners from all backgrounds to thrive
  • Oversee the effective delivery of enrichment, tutorials, employer visits, and trips
  • Organise and attend open events, parent evenings, enrolment and induction activities

 

External Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationships with NCFE, feeder schools, employers, awarding organisations and networks
  • Contribute to student recruitment strategy, marketing campaigns, and partnership events
  • Ensure students have access to meaningful employer encounters, progression routes and careers education
