We are recruiting a Housing Enabling Officer to come and work at the Council to assist in the delivery of affordable homes.
You will be joining the Housing Enabling and Delivery Team. The team is small, friendly, dynamic and very supportive of one another. We value a collaborative approach and work to build strong relationships with our colleagues, customers and partner agencies.
This post will be based in our Dorchester office while offering the flexibility of working in a hybrid way, whilst maintaining great team ethic We have regular catch ups to share knowledge and information and use Microsoft Teams to communicate throughout the day, providing a network of support within the Housing Enabling Team.

As a Housing Enabling Officer, you will play a pivotal role in our efforts to address housing needs and facilitate access to suitable housing for our community. You will work closely with partner organisations such as Registered Providers, land owners, Homes England, Housing Developers, Parish Councils and Community Groups.
You will be required to attend meetings and participate in consultations.
Providing support and guidance on a range of issues including but not limited to:
- Housing Needs Assessments
- Promoting affordable housing
- Commenting on planning applications
- Advise Registered Providers on new housing schemes.
- Negotiate planning agreements.
- Advise of planning policy.
- Support and promote community led housing projects.
- Liaise with Housing Developers on affordable housing requirements.
- Build partnerships with organisations to assist in the funding of affordable housing.
- Lead on the development of rural exception sites
Dorset Council has a good track record of promoting and enabling new affordable homes to meet the needs of local people and this role will play a key part in continuing this.
We are looking for candidates who can work with a range of partner organisations to help bring forward affordable housing schemes.
Ideally people will have some experience of the affordable housing sector, planning, development control or housing development.
Applicants should have a professional approach and be able to lead on projects, take ownership of tasks and meet deadlines, while being able to work well as part of a team. You will deal with a range of complex issues so will need a positive attitude towards problem solving.
Good communication skills are required as you will be working with a wide range of partner organisations and stakeholders.
There will be the requirement for occasional attendance at evening meetings.
