About the role

Play Coordinator (7.25hrs) Dorset Grade 3 - term time only

The closing date for applications is Sunday 22nd February 2026 (midnight) with interviews being held on Friday 27th February 2026.

Bere Regis Primary & Pre-School has a vacancy for an enthusiastic, responsible and friendly Play Coordinator to join our existing lunchtime team.

The role of Play Coordinator involves two important aspects. Firstly, supporting our play team to provide a rich and varied set of play opportunities for our children at lunchtime break. You will be responsible for coordinating and resourcing play activities, liaising with staff, pupils and the wider school community.

Secondly, you will provide high quality supervision to ensure the safety and general welfare of our pupils during the lunchtime period.  You will be required to assist with setting up and clearing away of tables, benches and lunches, basic cleaning duties and the supervision of children, when inside eating.

The post is for 7.25 hours per week across Monday to Friday, between 11.45am and 1.00pm each day (6.25hrs) with an additional 1 hour for planning and resourcing, which can be used flexibly.

We can offer excellent working conditions, a supportive environment and plenty of opportunity for further development. We are part of the Wessex MAT (www.wessex.ac), a growing academy, the membership of which provides exciting opportunities for support and professional development.

Our superb facilities were opened in 2017, and the school is located in one of the most picturesque parts of the country.

Further Information

Visits to the school are encouraged, please contact the school office on 01929 471334 to find out more about the role, ask any questions you may have and to arrange an appointment. Please refer to the Person Specification and Job Descriptions when making your application. Please apply using the online application available on the Dorset Council website www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

The Wessex MAT is committed to equal opportunities and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check in line with the Government’s safer recruitment guidelines. We value the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and paid annual leave entitlement for an employee under 5 years’ service.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.
