SEMH resource base Teaching Assistant - Required for September 2026

 We are seeking a highly motivated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Resource Base which will be opening in September 2026.

 

 We require TAs to work every day (8.15am - 3.30pm with 30 min lunch) or part time (2 or 3 days) plus one hour a week for a team planning meeting.

 

 The post will be Fixed Term Contract until the end of August 2027, with the possibility of being extended into the next academic year.

 

 These are grade 3 positions (based on BCP pay grade system), full time equivalent salary range (5-6) £25,583 to £25,989.  The role could be in Reception – Year 6 depending on the skills and experience of the candidates.

 

 The successful candidate will work closely with the Resource Base Lead and class teacher to support pupils with significant social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them to regulate, engage and succeed both socially and academically. 

The role will involve supporting pupils within the Resource Base provision as well as facilitating integration into mainstream classes where appropriate. 

 

The right person will: 

  • Have experience of supporting children with SEMH needs and/or SEND  

  • Have a strong understanding of attachment, trauma and behaviour as communication  

  • Be confident in using de-escalation strategies and supporting emotional regulation  

  • Be able to build positive, trusting relationships with children who may present with challenging behaviour  

  • Be calm, patient and resilient under pressure  

  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills  

  • Be passionate about inclusion and enabling all children to achieve their potential  

  • Be creative, flexible and solution-focused  

  • Be committed to ongoing professional development  

  • Be a team player who embraces collaboration and reflective practice

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Muscliff Primary School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
