Main purpose of role
To teach and assess across the Agriculture curriculum, providing specific support for the development of the Agricultural provision at Kingston Mauward Campus.
The Agriculture department at Kingston Mauward Campus boasts a 280ha commercially run mixed farm (dairy and sheep) and provides opportunities for staff and learners to work with a variety of machinery across arable, grazing and parkland. The application of practical to theory lessons is endless across the agricultural curriculum and current teachers are keen (and encouraged!) to get their learners working practically as much as possible.
With a growing student body, clear industry links to local farming communities and exciting changes in course delivery our Agriculture department is committed to the development of young farmers in the South West!
For this teaching role, we are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated agriculture specialist with the ability to deliver high quality, inspiring lessons and practical teaching sessions across various levels of learners.
The role promises a varied and interesting workload. Teaching will cover a range of livestock, machinery, agri-science and associated units, with the potential to collaborate with our Farm Manager to support the college farming calendar commitments within planned teaching sessions.
A flexible and positive attitude is required alongside the ability to challenge and motivate learners. The successful applicant will have plenty of vocational experience as well as being able to demonstrate excellent communication, administrative and organisational abilities in order to perform the role successfully.
The role would suit someone who has worked in industry and is now seeking a new challenge.
Teaching qualifications and an agricultural (or similar) qualification at degree level are both desirable. A strong emphasis on staff development and CPD within the college will guarantee your professional development during your role.
What will the job entail?
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment plans.
- Teach and complete summative and formative assessment.
- Teach groups of students in classroom situations.
- Monitor and record the attendance, punctuality and academic progress for all students in your groups, providing them with access to any extra help they may require. (eg. Learning Support)
- Communicate with staff and parents/carers as necessary.
- To set and maintain high levels of best practice.
- Prepare for internal verification and liaise with the Course Managers, Academic Manager and External Verifier to ensure the effective validation of programmes.
- Contribute to course management, organisation and pastoral support of students, including admissions, enrolment, induction, careers education, guidance and progression, enrichment and curriculum development.
- Contribute to Course and Department team meetings, course reviews and action plans for your courses and contribute towards the College Self-Assessment Review.

Qualifications
Essential
English and Maths at Level 2 or above
Teaching Qualification at Level 5 or above or willingness to work towards
Qualification in Agriculture or related subject at level 3 or above.

Assessor and Verifier qualifications or willingness to undertake IV training for relevant qualifications
First Aid Qualification or willingness to work towards

Industry specific ticket eg. vet meds, telehandler
Knowledge and Experience

Extensive and in-depth knowledge of the UK agricultural industry.
Experience and confidence in working with a range of livestock and different UK farming systems.
Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point.

Some supervisory/management experience
Knowledge of modern technologies being developed within agriculture.
