About the role

We’re looking to appoint a qualified accountant, preferably with experience of treasury management and/or pension fund accounting, to support and act as the deputy to the Service Manager Treasury and Investments on a one-year fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

What you’ll be doing

  • Overseeing daily cash management, and the implementation of borrowing and investment decisions.
  • Overseeing banking arrangements, including query resolution.
  • Helping with the management and administration of the investments of the Pension Fund.
  • Monitoring of contributions payable to the Pension Fund.
  • Production of the annual financial statements and annual report for the Pension Fund in line with the CIPFA code of practice, and within statutory deadlines.
  • Completing performance indicators, statistical returns and working papers.
  • Deputising for the Service Manager Treasury and Investments as required.

About you

You’ll be a CCAB qualified accountant and effective team leader with solid experience in financial reporting and working with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll know your way around financial systems and spreadsheets, and you’ll have a good working knowledge of local government accounting.

Conflicting deadlines are a regular feature of the role, and you’ll need to be well-organised, adaptable, and able to hold your own in a robust conversation when the situation calls for it.

Experience and understanding of treasury management and/or local government pension scheme accounting would be a real advantage for this role.

Essential requirements

  • Full CCAB membership.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Experience of financial reporting.
  • Experience of leading a team and working collaboratively to deliver shared objectives.
  • Working knowledge of local government accounting legislation and best practice.
  • Confident with financial systems, accounting software and spreadsheets.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands and deadlines.
